The race to challenge Buddy Mendes for his seat on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors is continuing to fill up.
Two candidates have already emerged to take on the veteran Fresno County lawmaker, per campaign filings.
Driving the news: Late last week, Parlier Mayor Alma Beltran filed paperwork to run for the seat, per the Secretary of State’s office. She now joins State Center Community College District trustee Danielle Parra in the race.
- Beltran was elected as Parlier’s mayor in 2014 and has been reelected twice – in 2018 and 2022.
- Parra was first elected to the SCCCD Board of Trustees in 2020, was re-elected in 2024, and serves as a public affairs consultant.
- Beltran and Parra hoping to represent District 4, which covers the southern part of Fresno County.
- Mendes has represented District 4 since he was first elected in 2014. The latest campaign finance documents showed that he had close to $117,000 cash-on-hand.
