Tangipa maintains second place in Assembly District 8 race

Voters in Assembly District 8 will have their choice between two Republicans in November if current results stand.

David Tangipa is hanging on to his second-place spot in the March primary, which would send him to the November election for Assembly District 8. 

Per the latest update from the state on Monday afternoon, Tangipa holds his lead by 86 votes.

Driving the news: Former Congressman George Radanovich leads all candidates at 36.7 percent with 39,609 votes, placing him in the general election in November. 

  • Tangipa, a fellow Republican, has 32,463 votes (30.1 percent) is just ahead of Democrat Caleb Helsel, who has 32,377 votes (30 percent). 
  • While Tangipa’s lead is slim, he has picked up some ground from election night, when he was only but by 35 votes. 
  • Independent Michael Matheson has 3.1 percent of the vote.
