Congressional candidate Chris Mathys will not have his desired ballot designation in the March primary.
The big picture: Mathys, a former Fresno City Councilman and candidate for Congressional District 22, sued Secretary of State Shirley Weber for denying his “MAGA Conservative” ballot designation.
- On Friday, Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Shelleyanne Chang ruled against Mathys.
- Chang ruled that Mathys could not use “MAGA Conservative” or “MAGA Conservative Republican.”
- Last year Mathys requested that his ballot designation be “Trump Conservative.” That was also denied by the state, and his designation ended up being “businessman/rancher.”
