Valley Dems post strong fundraising numbers months before election

Central Valley Congressional candidates are gearing up for the November election with millions of dollars of fundraising.

Central Valley Democrats have mostly outraised their Republican opponents for Congress in the second quarter of the year.

Here’s a look at the fundraising totals for the Valley’s Congressional districts, with the latest filings covering April 1 through June 30:

Congressional District 5

  • Rep. Tom McClintock (R–Roseville) is the outlier among his fellow Republicans in the Valley as he far outraised his opponent Mike Barkley (D–Manteca).
  • McClintock raised $145,107 in the quarter, bringing his cash on hand total to $141,089.
  • Barkley raised $1,185 and has $4,992 on hand.

Congressional District 9

  • Rep. Josh Harder bolstered his extensive war chest with $729,882.05 from April through June, bringing his total cash on hand to $3.32 million.
  • His opponent, Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln, raised $339,791.34 in the quarter and has $620,240.69 in his war chest.

Congressional District 13

  • Congressional District 13 proved to be one of the closest races in the nation two years ago, with Rep. John Duarte (R–Modesto) winning his first term in office by less than 600 votes over former Asm. Adam Gray (D–Merced).
  • Duarte raised $462,934 in the period, about half of the $991,909 that Gray raised.
  • But Duarte holds an advantage in his war chest with over $2 million on hand, although Gray isn’t far behind at $1.8 million.

Congressional District 20

  • Rep. Vince Fong (R–Bakersfield) will face Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux on the November ballot once again, but he is effectively running unopposed since Boudreaux recently suspended his campaign.
  • Fong raised $49,348 and has $57,567 left in the bank, while Boudreaux raised $227 and has $72,364 in his war chest.

Congressional District 21

  • Rep. Jim Costa (D–Fresno) took in $191,048 in the last three months, bringing his total on hand to $964,318.
  • Republican Michael Maher was not far behind by raising $168,995 in the period, though he has $148,396 left on hand.

Congressional District 22

  • Rep. David Valadao (R–Hanford), trying to fend off another challenge from former Asm. Rudy Salas (D–Bakersfield), raised 615,154.
  • Salas took in over $1.3 million, bringing his cash on hand total to nearly $1.75 million.
  • But Valadao still has the overall edge with over $2 million in the bank.
