After losing by a slim margin in 2022, Congressional Democrats are throwing extra support behind former Asm. Adam Gray (D–Merced) in his rematch against Rep. John Duarte (D–Modesto).
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced that Gray has been placed on the Red to Blue list, helping out his candidacy for Congressional District 13.
The big picture: Gray lost to Duarte by 0.4 percent in 2022 with less than 600 votes dividing the two.
- Gray joins a list of 17 Democratic candidates nationally – including former Asm. Rudy Salas (D–Bakersfield) in Congressional District 22.
- Being placed on the Red to Blue list means the DCCC will provide extra funding and support to Gray as it targets the 13th district as one of the most likely in the nation to pick up a seat.
What they’re saying: “I’ve been walking the district, and the people I’ve met – from Lathrop to Modesto to Mendota – say the same things,” Gray said. “They want a representative who will actually get something done. They want to see the crisis on the border resolved. They want to see water flowing into orchards and fields and not their homes. They want someone who won’t just point fingers and make excuses.”
