Valadao elected to lead Capitol Hill’s GOP Governance Group

The Hanford Republican will lead one of the top GOP caucus groups in Congress.

Rep. David Valadao (R–Hanford) has been elected as the chair of the Republican Governance Group.

The Republican Governance Group is a House GOP caucus that has been comprised of moderate Republicans over its three decades of existence.

The big picture: Valadao has been an active member of the Republican Governance Group, known as RG2, throughout his tenure in Congress.

  • He ran unopposed for the position to succeed Rep. Dave Joyce (R–Ohio), who stepped down as chair.
  • Rep. Young Kim (R–Anaheim Hills) was reelected as vice chair to RG2, while Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R–Fla.) joins as a new vice chair.

Why it matters: RG2, formerly called the Tuesday Group, is one of the five major Republican caucus groups in the House.

What he’s saying: “I’m honored to have been elected as the next Chairman of RG2 and am grateful for my colleagues’ trust and support,” Valadao said in a statement. “RG2 has consistently stood for effective and commonsense policy solutions, and I’m excited to continue this tradition as we work together to address the critical challenges facing our nation.”

  • Valadao thanked Joyce for leading the caucus since 2022.
  • “I look forward to building on RG2’s legacy in the 119th Congress and delivering results for the American people,” Valadao said.
