Costa honored by Zelenskyy in Ukraine

The Fresno Democrat was honored for his support of Ukraine during his time in Congress.

Rep. Jim Costa (D–Fresno) has been honored by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian Parliament.

Costa was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which is one of the highest awards in the country.

Driving the news: The award was presented to Costa during a recent visit to Ukraine, where he met with Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian leaders.

  • Costa, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, held discussions with Zelenskyy and others on Ukrainian security, economic development and humanitarian aid.
  • He was joined by fellow Representatives Salud Carbajal (D–CA), Jimmy Panetta (D–CA) and Don Bacon (R–NE).
  • They traveled through Konovaltsia and Kokorudza streets in Lviv, Ukraine, where seven people, including three people, were killed by a Russian missile on Sep. 4.

What they’re saying: “I am honored to receive this accolade and will continue to work with Ukraine to help it defend itself and preserve its sovereignty,” Costa said. “The United States and Ukraine share a commitment to democracy and security. I look forward to continuing our collaboration and standing with the resilient Ukrainian people.”
