Assembly candidate David Tangipa has picked up the endorsement of Fresno’s major conservative political action committee.
The Lincoln Club of Fresno announced Tuesday that it has endorsed Tangipa to replace Asm. Jim Patterson (R–Fresno) when he wraps up his last term in office next year.
Driving the news: Tangipa, a former Fresno State football player and staffer for Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig, is running for the 8th Assembly District.
- His competition is former Republican Congressman George Radanovich, who has the backing of former Asm. Frank Bigelow (R–O’Neals). Bigelow represented part of the district before he was shoved out during the redistricting process.
- Patterson is backing Tangipa as his replacement.
Why it matters: The Lincoln Club’s endorsement of Tangipa could give him instant credibility in the eyes of voters, given that he is a newcomer to the political scene unlike Radanovich.
- Fresno County makes up around 63 percent of the voter population in District 8.
- Securing Fresno County’s conservative base could be enough for Tangipa to defeat Radanovich, who is from Mariposa.
What they’re saying: “We wish David the best in his endeavor to bring a fresh voice to Sacramento and recommend to all voters in the 8th District to cast their vote for David Tangipa for Assembly,” the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Club said.
