Superior Dairy listed for sale as owner set to retire

Superior Dairy is up for sale for the first time in 95 years, with the family hoping to sell to someone who will keep it running for another century.

Hanford’s historic Superior Dairy is up for sale for the first time in its history.

The 95-year-old ice cream shop is on the market for $2.5 million.

Driving the news: Superior Dairy owner Tim Jones announced that it is time for him to retire, and with no one in the family willing to take over operations, he made the decision to sell.

  • The dairy opened in 1929 and has been family-owned ever since.
  • Dine-in options at the ice cream shop closed down in March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Superior Dairy has operated only on a takeout basis ever since.
  • Local realtor Ryan Portugal of Help-U-Sell Real Estate is handling the sale.

What they’re saying: Jones said in a statement that the decision to sell the dairy came after heavy thought and consideration.

  • “Of primary consideration is a new owner [who] will afford the chance to continue the Superior Dairy legacy and deliver the quality products that our great loyal customers have come to know and expect since 1929,” Jones said in a statement.
  • Jones said all on-site staff will refer all inquiries regarding the sale to Portugal.
  • “Thank you for 95 years of continuous support for Superior Dairy and we look forward to its new owner receiving another 95 years of support as they guide Superior Dairy in the future,” Jones said.
