Power outages persist, wildfire evacuation orders lifted after Wed. morning lightning strikes

Thunderstorms early Wednesday morning have forced evacuations in eastern Fresno County.

Wednesday morning thunderstorms in Fresno County ignited its dry foothills, leading to a fire near Millerton Lake.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims issued an evacuation order for homes on the 27000 block of Aqua Vista near the reservoir.

Additional evacuation warnings are placed for El Lado Road and adjacent roads.

Fresno County shuttered Sky Harbor during fire operations.

The order was lifted Wednesday afternoon as fire crews were able to contain the blaze near the reservoir.

Meanwhile, high winds during the morning storm triggered power outages via PG&E’s Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings.

The outages, which stretched from northern Tulare County to eastern Madera County, placed nearly 10,000 customers without power.

In Kern County, lightning struck a man Wednesday morning while walking his dog and child in a stroller.

The man, who was walking in Ridgecrest, was struck around 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday. Per a Nexstar report, bystanders administered medical aid until police and paramedics could arrive.

The man’s dog and child were not harmed by the lightning strike.
