Calif. Supreme Court to hold hearing in Fresno

The hearing provides an opportunity for students from local schools to learn about California’s judicial process.

The California Supreme Court is headed to Fresno for a special outreach session. 

It will be the first time the court holds a session in Fresno since 2010. 

The big picture: The court will hold a special oral argument session on Oct. 9 in Fresno. 

  • Local high school students and teachers will attend, as well as an elementary school and a law school, according to a press release. 
  • Students will have an opportunity to ask justices questions about the court and their role in the judicial system at the start of the session. 
  • Once the question and answer session wraps up, the court will hold the oral arguments on the calendar for the day. 
  • The hearing will be held at the 5th District Court of Appeal in downtown Fresno. 

Go deeper: Four cases are on the calendar, including one involving San Jose Healthcare System and another involving Jo-Ann Stores. 

  • Students from the following schools will attend: Buchanan High School, Bullard High School, Clovis High School, Clovis North High School, Clovis East High School, Clovis West High School, Coalinga High School, Justin Garza High School, Reedley High School, Roosevelt High School, Maple Creek Elementary and San Joaquin College of Law.
