Balderrama dropped from Atlanta-based police conference appearance

Fresno’s police chief was removed as a speaker at a national conference one day after being placed on leave.

Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama will no longer speak at a conference in Atlanta after being placed on administrative leave. 

Balderrama had been scheduled to speak at Flock Forward this week. 

Driving the news: Balderrama was placed on paid administrative leave on Wednesday while the city investigates an affair that he had for over two years with an officer’s wife. 

  • He was set to speak at the Flock Forward 2024 conference to discuss the Fresno Police Department’s use of license plate readers. 
  • Fresno law enforcement sources told The Sun that Balderrama’s leave was scheduled to take effect after the conference wrapped up. 

The big picture: As of Thursday afternoon, Balderrama’s name had been removed from the Flock Forward website as a speaker. 

  • Flock Forward organizer said that Balderrama was scheduled to speak but will no longer be part of the event.
