Dos Palos-Oro Loma Joint Unified School District completes major energy upgrades

The district has received grants to cover the upgrades, which should provide significant energy savings.

Dos Palos-Oro Loma Joint Unified School District has completed its first round of energy upgrades with more on the way.

The upgrades should save the district around $130,000 in energy costs.

The backstory: After receiving Elementary and Secondary School Emergency RElief funds last year, the district partnered with Syserco Energy Solutions to upgrade its energy system.

The big picture: Syserco replaced 61 packaged HVAC units – 26 at Dos Palos Elementary, 18 at Dos Palos High School and 17 at Bryant Middle School.

  • The second phase of the project included further HVAC repair and replacements of filters and CO2 sensors, updated refrigeration controls and plumbing upgrades.
  • Over 80 percent of those energy upgrades were covered by a grant from the California Schools Healthy Air, Plumbing and Efficiency Program.
  • The district is also working on more energy upgrades that total over $2 million in cost.
