Kern Fire captain passes away from cancer

The department will honor Captain Bruce Wells by flying their flags at half-staff and wearing mourning bands over their badges.

Kern County Fire Department Captain Bruce Wells has passed away from cancer. 

Wells served in the department for three decades. 

The big picture: The Kern County Fire Department announced Wells’ passing on Monday. 

  • Wells is survived by his wife, Lisa, and his three sons. 
  • The department said his family was by his side throughout his battle with cancer. 
  • The department will lower its flags to half-staff and wear mourning bands over their badges to honor Wells. 

What they’re saying: Kern County Fire Chief Aaron Duncan called Wells a family member and a true friend. 

  • “Bruce was above all a family man,” Duncan said in a statement. “He loved his wife Lisa and their three boys more than anything. Anyone who spoke with Bruce knew immediately what his priority was, it was his family. They were his rock, they were his anchor, he loved them immensely.”
