Bakersfield’s ‘rude 911 dispatcher’ lit TikTok ablaze. Police revealed the other side of the story.

The Bakersfield Police Department has released a recording of a 911 call that refutes a viral TikTok video.

A viral TikTok video claiming a Bakersfield 911 dispatcher was rude turned out to be from five years ago.

The Bakersfield Police Department released a recording of the call, noting that it took place on Nov. 4, 2021, despite the video going viral last week.

Driving the news: The video circulating on TikTok received millions of views and likes. It claimed to expose a rude 911 dispatcher.

  • In response, the Bakersfield Police Department commenced an internal review to investigate the video and the quality of its dispatch service.

The big picture: Bakersfield police posted a recording of the call, which was a woman reporting a domestic violence incident that involved her boyfriend.

  • Different dispatchers made three additional calls back to the woman to receive more information while coordinating with an officer.

What they’re saying: “In each of these calls, our call-takers provided courteous and professional communication consistent with the service expectations of our organization,” Bakersfield police said in a statement. “We are releasing a copy of the recorded audio from this event in an effort to remain transparent and assure our community that we remain committed to our values and quality service.”

  • The department said it has made contact with the person who posted the video on TikTok.
  • “We are also aware that several names of employees have been posted online as responsible for the call in question,” the department said. “None of these employees were involved with the actual call from 2021.”
