Saint Agnes receives $13.6 million gift from Richter Estate

Funds from the gift will support the construction of a new emergency department at the north Fresno hospital.

Saint Agnes Medical Center has received the largest gift in its history.

The hospital announced Thursday that the King J. Richter Estate has donated $13.6 million.

The big picture: Saint Agnes said the $13.6 million donation is the largest gift in the hospital’s 96-year history.

  • The gift will support the construction of a new emergency department. Funding will also support investments in new medical technology and devices, as well as being used to improve access to care.

What they’re saying: “The generosity of King J. Richter will allow Saint Agnes to invest directly in our facilities and care services to ensure we can meet the growing and complex needs of our community right here at home for generations to come,” said Saint Agnes President Dr. Gurvinder Kaur.

  • Saint Agnes Board Chair Ronald Wathen added, “As Board Chair, I get to witness firsthand the sacred, healing work happening here at the hospital every day, and this extraordinary gift will only multiply this great work. Saint Agnes is building for a brighter future in Valley health care.”
  • He continued, “Our entire Saint Agnes family of colleagues, physicians and community members are grateful to Richter for his support of our healing ministry.”
