Madera Community Hospital names new CEO ahead of reopening

The hospital has a few more hurdles to clear before it can reopen.

Madera Community Hospital has a new CEO in charge as it gets closer to reopening under new management.

Earlier this the Madera Community Hospital Board appointed longtime hospital executive Steve Stark as the new CEO.

The big picture: Stark has been a CEO for hospitals managed by Madera Community Hospital operator American Advanced Management for over a decade.

  • He comes to Madera after serving as the CEO at Orchard Hospital in Gridley, Glenn Medical Center in Willows and Colusa Medical Center.
  • Previous Madera Community Hospital CEO Karen Paolinelli is stepping down and will continue to support the hospital in its efforts to reopen on a contract basis.

What we’re watching: American Advanced Management also announced that Madera Community Hospital is only months away from reopening.

  • The hospital will host a job fair this month.
  • American Advanced Management needs the California Department of Public Health and other agencies to survey and certify the hospital before it can reopen.

What they’re saying: “Steve’s experience in leading and turning around hospitals and his commitment to community make him an excellent fit for our hospital,” said Board President Deidre da Silva. “I especially appreciate his focus on putting patients and community first.”

  • Stark said he is honored to be selected by the board, adding that he and his family are thrilled to soon call Madera home.
  • “Madera is a wonderful city, and I’m excited to serve the community by leading Madera Community Hospital,” Stark said.
  • He added, “My focus as a CEO is to provide the highest level of quality, safety and experience for our patients and community.”
