Kim Armstrong named interim president at Fresno City College

State Center Community College District is shuffling around its leadership to fill a hole left by Robert Pimental at Fresno City College.

Clovis Community College President Kim Armstrong is taking over as the acting president of Fresno City College.

Armstrong heads to Fresno City College in preparation for President Robert Pimental’s departure at the end of the month to become the Chancellor at West Hills Community College District.

The big picture: Armstrong’s time in Clovis ultimately proved to be short, as she took leadership of the school in January 2023.

  • Before taking over Clovis Community College, Armstrong was the Vice Chancellor for Student, Equity, and Community Affairs at Arkansas State University Three Rivers.
  • Monica Chahal, the Vice President of Instruction at Clovis Community College will take over for Armstrong as the interim president.
  • Fresno City College Vice President of Administrative Services Omar Gutierrez is also leaving the district for Southwestern College in Chula Vista, where he has been appointed as the Chief Business Officer.
  • Glynna Billings is taking over his position at Fresno City College in the interim. Billings is currently the District Accounting Manager.

What they’re saying: “I have full confidence in our leadership team and the entire District as we navigate these transitions and continue our mission of providing quality education and support to our students,” said State Center Chancellor Carole Goldsmith in a statement. “These strategic appointments reflect the District’s deep commitment to maintaining positive momentum and our focus on advancing equitable student access and achievement across the district. We are fortunate to have such talented and versatile individuals in our District.”
