Woman killed by homeless man at Southern California college

The victim was walking her dog when she was attacked.

A woman in her 60s was killed in a sledgehammer attack on the campus of El Camino College near Torrance, California.

The attack occurred on Christmas Eve morning around 7 a.m. while the victim was walking her dog and collecting recyclables.

Driving the news: The attacker, identified as Jeffery Davis, 40, was captured on surveillance footage and was known to be a homeless individual.

  • The woman was found unconscious and bleeding from her head near the gymnasium building. She was taken to a local hospital and died from her injuries on Christmas Day.
  • Davis was located at a neighboring county park, where he was sometimes seen, and taken into custody by campus police.
