The priciest home ever sold in California was recently purchased for $210 million.

James Jannard, the billionaire founder of Oakley, sold the oceanfront home in Malibu after purchasing it in 2012 for $75 million.

The big picture: The mansion features eight bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, and underwent a reduction in square footage to align with the owner’s preference for a more restrained design.

  • The buyer of the property remains undisclosed as a Delaware LLC, and the sale was handled by Kurt Rappaport, a real estate agent known for representing high-profile clients such as Larry Ellison, Tom Cruise and LeBron James.
  • The previous record for the most expensive home sold in California was held by Beyonce and Jay-Z when they purchased a Malibu mansion for $200 million in 2023.
  • Other notable real estate records in California include homes purchased by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for $165 million in 2020 and by Lachlan Murdoch for $150 million in 2019.
  • Malibu remains a sought-after location for luxury real estate, attracting a mix of celebrities and affluent individuals, including Bay Area tech elites.
