Covered California has reached a record enrollment prior to the 2025 open enrollment deadline.
The big picture: Over 1.8 million individuals are enrolled in the state’s health insurance marketplace, with approximately 143,686 Californians enrolling for the first time and over 1.6 million renewing their coverage.
- Nearly half of new enrollees come from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, with a total of 68,095 sign-ups.
- Despite a nearly 10% increase in rates this year, Covered California’s Executive Director Jessica Altman attributes the rise to factors such as escalating pharmacy costs, labor shortages, and wage hikes in the healthcare industry.
- The average rate increase for Covered California in 2025 is projected to be 7.9%.
