Jason Phillips, the Chief Executive Officer of the Friant Water Authority, is leaving his position in January.
The Friant Water Authority announced Tuesday that Phillips will step down on Jan. 19, 2026, in order to take a leadership role in the private sector.
Driving the news: Phillips has served as the CEO of the Friant Water Authority since 2016, where he has represented the agency to the public and in various lobbying efforts, among other responsibilities.
- Before joining the agency, Phillips worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 15 years and as a project planner for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
- He recently moved to Arizona and has been working remotely for the agency.
What we’re watching: The Friant Water Authority said Phillips plans to remain involved in western water matters in his new private sector position.
- The Friant Water Authority Board will evaluate its options for who will succeed Phillips as the agency’s leader over the coming weeks.
What they’re saying: “During his time with FWA, Jason has been a dedicated and results-driven leader whose influence was instrumental in advancing major infrastructure improvements, strengthening relationships with state and federal partners, and ensuring that Friant’s priorities were at the forefront of critical water policy discussions,” said board chair Richard Borges. “His leadership has left a lasting impact, and I’m certain Jason will be successful in his new role.”
- “It’s been an honor to serve the Friant Board and this region over the past 10 years, and I’m incredibly proud of our talented team,” Phillips said. “My priority now is a smooth handoff to help keep key projects and priorities on track. I intend to remain very engaged in western water, supporting solutions for farms, cities, and communities across the West.”
