Fresno County is taking steps to combat the increase in real property title fraud that is affecting the nation.
Fresno County Assessor-Recorder Paul Dictos unveiled the Fresno County Property Owners Protection Alert (FCPOPA) program to help combat fraud.
The big picture: Through FCPOPA, property owners can subscribe to stay informed when any documents are recorded using their personal or property information.
- The free program alerts property owners to potential cases of fraud.
How to enroll: Property owners can enroll in FCPOPA on the county’s website and will need to provide their Assessor’s Parcel Number, along with their email address and name.
What they’re saying: “The FBI reports that Title Theft is one of the fastest growing cyber-crimes in America,” Dictos said. “I want to be a crime stopper to protect your property.”
Go deeper: People who suspect that someone has tried to fraudulently obtain title on their real property can submit a report to the Real Estate Fraud Unit in the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.
