Pete Carroll is returning to USC, although he won’t be leading the Trojans from the sideline.
Carroll, 72, will return to the school as a teacher this year, USC confirmed.
Driving the news: During his tenure with USC from 2001-09, Carroll led the Trojans to a record of 97-19 and two national championships, solidifying USC as a national football powerhouse.
- After departing from USC, Carroll went on to coach the Seattle Seahawks for 14 seasons, achieving a 137-89 record, two Super Bowl appearances, and the franchise’s only NFL championship.
- Despite his dismissal from the Seahawks in January, Carroll indicated that he hasn’t been extensively involved as an advisor to the team, leaving the door open for potential coaching opportunities in the future.
- USC has struggled to regain its dominant form since Carroll’s departure, experiencing coaching changes and inconsistent performance on the field, including a disappointing 2023 season under the leadership of the current head coach, Lincoln Riley.
