Kings Canyon Unified launches new Student Support Center

The center will provide necessities such as food and clothing for students and help out the district’s immigrant families.

Kings Canyon Unified School District is opening a new Student Support Center on Friday.

The Student Support Center will support homeless and foster youth, as well as immigrant families that are entering the district.

The big picture: Two social workers will be available at the Student Support Center for walk-in appointments from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. every weekday.

  • A dedicated social worker will also support homeless students and those in the foster care system.
  • The center will also give students in need access to new clothing, backpacks, hygiene products, laundry detergent and food boxes.

State of play: The district said its migrant program serves over 460 students every year.

  • All migrant staff in the district will now work at the support center moving forward.

What they’re saying: “The Student Support Center is not just a building; it is a lifeline for many of our students and their families,” said Superintendent John Campbell. “The services we will provide here will make a big difference in the lives of our students, many of whom are in very vulnerable circumstances.”
