Former Fresno State linebacker Ron Cox will be inducted into the Ring of Honor this season.
Cox will be the first defensive player to receive the honor as he becomes the 12th member of the group.
Driving the news: Cox played for the Bulldogs from 1987 to 1989, declaring for the NFL Draft after his junior season.
- He was selected in the second round by the Chicago Bears in the 1990 NFL Draft with the 33rd overall pick.
- No Fresno State defender has matched Cox since he left, as his record of 50 career sacks for the ‘Dogs is still the most in program history. Current defensive line coach Jethro Franklin has the second-most with 31.5 sacks.
- Cox’s 1989 season saw him sack the quarterback 28 times, helping vault him to All-American honors.
- He spent seven years in the NFL and helped the Green Bay Packers win Super Bowl XXXI in 1997.

We are incredibly proud to recognize Ron as the first defensive player in the Ring of Honor, and his story will continue to inspire our community and future student-athletes.”
Ring of Honor: Cox will join his former coach Jim Sweeney in the Ring of Honor this season.
- Former head coach Pat Hill is the only other coach to be in the Ring of Honor.
- The nine players currently celebrated by the program are Derek Carr, David Carr, Kevin Sweeney, Trent Dilfer, Vince Petrucci, Davante Adams, Dale Messer, Lorenzo Neal and Henry Ellard.
