The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is committing over $45 million in its first wave of advertising for the November elections.
Locally, the NRCC is purchasing nearly $4 million in the Central Valley and Sacramento regions.
The big picture: Republican candidates will be backed by $45.7 million in advertising nationally, with the NRCC targeting 22 Congressional districts.
- Of the 22 districts receiving advertising targeting, 13 of them are currently held by Democrats.
- Republican efforts are also dedicated to five districts held by Democrats that previously supported President Trump.
Zoom in: The NRCC is committing $1.16 million in advertising in the Fresno market and $1.3 million in Bakersfield, which will likely go to defend Rep. David Valadao (R–Hanford) and Rep. John Duarte (R–Modesto).
- In March the NRCC announced its list of 37 pick-up opportunities across the nation and did not include Rep. Jim Costa (D–Fresno) on the list.
- However, Rep. Josh Harder (D–Tracy) is on the list as he faces Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln. The NRCC is purchasing $1.475 million in the Sacramento market.
The other side: Last week the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced $28 million in initial advertising for the November elections.
- The Fresno, Bakersfield and Sacramento markets were not among the listed television markets that the DCCC is targeting, although the DCCC said it has made digital advertising reservations in competitive states, including California. The DCCC did not specify how much money it will funnel into the Valley.
What they’re saying: “The NRCC committed from Day One to not just hold our majority, but go on offense to grow our majority – today we are putting our money where our mouth is,” said NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson.
- Hudson continued, “This initial investment gives our candidates firepower to remind voters of the Biden border, crime, and inflation crises wreaking havoc on their daily lives. Extreme Democrats who enabled the chaos and malaise should polish up their resumes – they will be unemployed soon.”
