Mexican national indicted for possessing 200k fentanyl pills in Fresno County

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over Romero while he was driving north on Interstate 5.

A Mexican national has been indicted for possessing fentanyl in Fresno County. 

U.S. Attorney Phillip Talbert announced the indictment on Thursday. 

The big picture: A federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment on Thursday against Miguel Obed Romero Reyes, 25. 

  • Romero was charged with possessing over 400 grams of fentanyl with intent to distribute. 
  • Court documents state Romero conspired with another person to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl. 
  • Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies pulled Romero over when he was driving north on Interstate 5 in Fresno County. 
  • They seized a large duffel bag containing 48 pounds of blue counterfeit M-30 pills in 20 separate 1-gallon Ziploc bags. 
  • Romero had over 200,000 fentanyl pills in total in his car. 

What we’re watching: Romero faces a minimum of 10 years in prison to life if he is convicted, as well as a $10 million fine.
