Fresno ranks as one of the worst cities in the country for speed-related fatal crashes, according to a new study.
Business litigation and personal injury lawyers Heninger Garrison Davis found that Fresno ranked fourth in the nation for such accidents in the study.
Driving the news: The study looked at data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on fatal crashes between 2017 and 2021.
By the numbers: Fresno had 122 speed-related fatal crashes out of 275 total speed-related crashes, a rate of 44.36 percent.
- Milwaukee took the top spot at 54.05 percent, followed by Saint Louis at 45.18 percent and Kansas City at 45.01 percent.
- Cleveland came in behind Fresno at 43.01 percent, followed by Amarillo (41.74 percent), Chicago (41.35 percent), Charlotte (40.48 percent) and San Bernardino (39.55 percent).
What they’re saying: “Speeding drastically increases the risk of fatal accidents, and this data illustrates which major cities in America face the biggest problem with exceeding the speed limit,” said a spokesperson for Heninger Garrison Davis. “Of the 106 cities included in the study, there were more than 28,000 fatal crashes over the five year period, and more than 8,000 of them involved speeding.”
