Tulare native Michelle Mizner was awarded an Oscar on Sunday for her work on 20 Days in Mariupol.
The Tulare Union High School graduate was a producer and editor on the documentary.
Driving the news: “20 Days in Mariupol,” produced by The Associated Press and PBS’ “Frontline,” was recognized as the best documentary.
- Mystyslav Chernov’s documentary debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and also was awarded as the best documentary from the Directors Guild and BAFTA.
- It showed footage from the early part of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 in Mariupol.
- “20 Days in Mariupol” won the Oscar over “Four Daughters,” “The Eternal Memory,” “Bobi Wine: The People’s President” and “To Kill a Tiger.”
