A new Whole Foods grocery store is going to open in northwest Bakersfield.
It will be at the site of a former PG&E power plant.
The big picture: The new Whole Foods will be part of a major redevelopment project at Rosedale Highway and Coffee Road.
- The 25-acre site will feature a community park, electric car charging stations and other retailers, according to developer Sage Investco.
- Sage Investco did not reveal when construction would start on the property, which is planned to have 250,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
- The project should bring 1,000 jobs to Bakersfield and generate around $209 million in sales, providing over $3 million in sales and property tax revenue to the city.
What they’re saying: “The site has been vacant and blighted for nearly 40 years and we appreciate PG&E’s critically needed support toward ensuring that this prominent corner becomes the amenity the community has long desired,” said Patrick Charriou, manager of Sage Investco, in a statement.
