Former Tulare Fire Chief Luis Nevarez has taken over as Hanford’s interim Fire Chief.
The move comes after Steve Pendergrass decided to leave the department.
Driving the news: The City of Hanford selected Nevarez to fill in as the interim chief while the hunt for a permanent chief begins.
- Pendergrass left Hanford to move to Millbank, South Dakota, where he accepted a job as a City Administrator.
- Nevarez joined the Tulare Fire Department in 1989 and retired as the Fire Chief in 2021.
- He also teaches at the College of the Sequoias and Porterville College.
