The City of Madera is receiving nearly $1.5 million state funding for public safety and outdoor recreation projects.
State Sen. Anna Caballero (D–Merced) will present the city with two ceremonial checks on Monday.
The big picture: Madera will receive $950,000 from the state for technology upgrades to the Madera Police Department’s communication system in the mobile command center.
- The city will also receive $500,000 for trail system upgrades for the Lions Town and Country Park.
- The park is the city’s largest, and it features a trail system over one mile long, an amphitheater, a playground and baseball fields.
- Constructed over 35 years ago, the trail system is currently in a state of disrepair and will be upgraded with the state funding.
What they’re saying: Caballero said in a statement that it is important for her to work closely with the mayor and City Council to identify priorities to get projects funded through the state budget.
- “The funds secured for the City of Madera are vital for the health and well-being of the residents and are an example of what we can accomplish when we all work together to get things done,” Caballero said.
- “These contributions will empower the City of Madera to make a lasting impact on public safety, revamp outdoor recreational spaces, and enhance the overall well-being of our community,” said Mayor Santos Garcia.
