Kingsburg farm has fruit recalled after Listeria outbreak

The CDC has linked one death to the outbreak that came from fruit distributed by a Central Valley farm.

A Kingsburg farm is at the center of a deadly outbreak of Listeria. 

Driving the news: Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a food safety alert for whole peaches, nectarines and plums distributed by Kingsburg’s HMC Farms. 

  • The outbreak has led to 11 illnesses, 10 hospitalizations and one death. 
  • So far Listeria has spread from California to Colorado, Kansas, Florida, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. 
  • In response to the outbreak, the CDC has issued a recall for peaches, nectarines and plums distributed by HMC Farms that were sold between May 1 and November 15 in 2022 and 2023. 
  • They are sold in two-pound bags branded HMC Farms or Signatures Farms, as well as individual fruit with a sticker that has “USA-E-U” and the following numbers:
    • Yellow peach: 4044 or 4038
    • White peach: 4401
    • Yellow nectarine: 4036 or 4378
    • White nectarine: 3035
    • Red plum: 4042
    • Black plum: 4040
