Visalia native Stephen Vogt named skipper of MLB’s Cleveland Guardians

The Visalia native takes over for manager Terry Francona, broke the World Series curse for the Boston Red Sox and nearly did the same for the former Cleveland Indians.

Stephen Vogt has been named as the next manager for the Cleveland Guardians.

Driving the news: Vogt is a former major league catcher and comes from the Central Valley region. He graduated from Central Valley Christian High School in Visalia, California.

  • Prior to being named as the next manager for the Cleveland Guardians, Vogt was the bullpen and quality control coach for the Seattle Mariners in the 2023 season.
  • He also had a ten-year playing career in the major leagues, playing with teams such as Tampa Bay, Oakland, Milwaukee, San Francisco, Arizona, and Atlanta.
  • He was a two-time all-star with the A’s, in 2015 and in 2016.
  • Vogt replaces Terry Francona, who retired after the 2023 season.
