Fresno State’s 14-game win streak, the second-longest active nationally in college football, is no more.
After getting off to a slow start at Wyoming, the Bulldogs were unable to complete the comeback as they lost 24-19 on Saturday.
How it happened: The Bulldogs had an early sign of their struggles to be with a three-and-out to start the game, handing the ball immediately to Wyoming. The Cowboys took quick advantage and jumped out to a 3-0 lead, controlling the clock with a 13-play, 66-yard drive that took more than seven minutes.
- Fresno State would go on to punt once again, leading to the Cowboys to find the end zone at the start of the second quarter to extend their lead to 10-0.
- The Bulldogs answered back on a 75-yard drive, capped by a short pass from quarterback Mikey Keene to receiver Jalen Moss to cut the deficit to 10-7.
- But Wyoming would go on to score twice more before the first half was over, and the 24-7 lead proved to be insurmountable for the ‘Dogs.
- Fresno State held Wyoming scoreless in the second half and made things interesting with a successful onside kick, but it was too little, too late for the Bulldogs.
By the numbers: As evidenced by Wyoming’s first drive, the Cowboys led the time of possession battle, controlling the ball for over 32 minutes.
- Wyoming controlled the ball on the ground with 130 rushing yards compared to 38 for the Bulldogs.
- The Cowboys also found far more consistent success on their offensive drives, picking up 27 first downs compared to 17 for the Bulldogs.
Goodbye Top 25: Along with losing their vaunted win streak, the Bulldogs also dropped out of the Associated Press Top 25.
- Fresno State cracked the Top 25 in Week 5 and moved up to No. 24 last week. Following their loss on Saturday, the Bulldogs did not receive a single vote.
