Fresno’s Soria to advise Newsom on homelessness “epidemic”

The group, Newsom’s administration said in a release, will “advise the Administration on solutions to address the state’s homelessness epidemic.”

Fresno City Councilwoman Esmeralda Soria was named to a collection of regional leaders advising Gov. Gavin Newsom on the Golden State’s homelessness epidemic.

The group, Newsom’s administration said in a release, will “advise the Administration on solutions to address the state’s homelessness epidemic.”

Soria is the lone San Joaquin Valley representative to the advisory group. The other Central Valley representative, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, is serving as co-chair of the group.

The group is scheduled to first meet in August in a so-far unspecified Central Valley locale.

“It’s time we stop talking about the homelessness crisis and start acting,” Newsom said in a release. “This is a crisis that affects all of California – from rural and urban communities to coastal and inland cities. We need to work collectively to source local solutions from mayors, county supervisors and city councils and implement those solutions at scale statewide.”
