NPS: Yosemite Valley to close effective Friday

National Park Service officials are preparing for increased floods within Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite National Park is closing significant parts of Yosemite Valley effective Friday evening over increased threat of flooding from melting snow.

Driving the news: Most of Yosemite Valley will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until at least May 3, with the potential for further closures later in May and June.

  • The park experienced extreme rain and heavy snowfall this winter, which led to a three-week closure in February and March.
  • Daytime highs in the valley will be in the 50s each day through the weekend, with a warm spell moving in that will speed up the snowmelt.

Know before you go: Visitors should check the park’s website for the latest closures and updates.

  • Reservations for lodging and campgrounds in eastern Yosemite Valley will automatically be canceled and refunded.
