Trump approves emergency declaration for Ridgecrest earthquakes

The move allows Federal agencies to assist in the recovery process after two earthquakes, a 6.5 and 7.1M, struck Ridgecrest last week.

President Donald Trump approved a federal emergency declaration regarding the two high-magnitude earthquakes that struck in Ridgecrest last week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) announced.

The declaration allows the Federal government, through the Department of Homeland Security and its sub-agencies – such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) – to provide support and assistance during the recovery process.

In a tweet Monday afternoon, Trump said he was working with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield), whose district includes Ridgecrest, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom to deliver emergency funding to the region.
