Bakersfield is poaching a major ag supplier from southern California, bringing white collar jobs and big salaries to the city.
M8 Systems is a agricultural firm providing automated irrigation management systems for agriculture.
Driving the news: Wednesday, the Bakersfield City Council approved an agreement to provide M8 Systems with up to $99,999 in subsidies to assist in the company’s relocation from Southern California to Bakersfield.
- The company is currently negotiating a lease of a building in Bakersfield and expects to hire local sales, service and customer support staff within the first quarter of this year.
State of play: According to the staff report on the council’s agenda, the agreement advances the council goal of providing “economic opportunities for all” through the establishment of a new business locally, which will result in additional job creation.
- The deal also advances the city’s Economic Development Strategic Plan by attracting a technology-oriented business.
