The special election to replace outgoing Rep. Devin Nunes (R–Tulare) is officially scheduled.
Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation scheduling three special elections in the state – California’s 22nd Congressional District, 11th Assembly District, and 80th Assembly District – for June 7, combined with the state’s 2020.

The proclamation kicks off a rushed calendar, as the special primary election will be held on April 5.
Nunes shocked Golden State political watchers by announcing his resignation after 19 years in Congress to take the chief executive role for the Trump Media and Technology Group.
That move, combined with redistricting, has left a likely field of at least five candidates to vie for his remaining seven-month term.
Among them: Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig (R–Clovis), former Congressional contender Elizabeth Heng (R–Fresno), Nunes’ 2020 Democratic opponent Phil Arballo (D–Fresno), Lourin Hubbard (D–Fresno), and Eric Garcia (D–Fresno).
Filing for the open seat is set to start in earnest on Monday.
