After briefly escaping California’s targeted engagement list for declining coronavirus metrics, Kern County is set to once again join Gov. Gavin Newsom’s watch list on Tuesday.
The Golden Empire is set to rejoin the remaining San Joaquin Valley counties on Tuesday, KGET first reported.
Restrictions on targeted engagement counties – which includes the cessation of indoor operations in restaurants, gyms, churches, shopping malls, and personal care services – will begin on Friday.
Monday, Newsom announced that hair and nail care services would be able to reopen in outdoor operation.
Later Monday evening, the Kern County Fair board of directors voted to cancel the 2020 Fair, slated to run from Sept. 23 to Oct. 4.
Fair organizers spent much of the past three months weighing back-and-forth over a decision to go forward with a fair, following a rash of cancellations in southern California due to the coronavirus pandemic.
