The junior running back joins the list with 70 other running backs for the award that recognizes the best running back in college football.

There are 17 sophomores, 32 juniors and 22 seniors on the list. The award requires all candidates to be in good academic standing.

Rivers played in 24 games in his first two years at Fresno State, starting 12 of them. He was named MVP of the Las Vegas Bowl last season and also scored the game-winning touchdown in the Mountain West Championship against Boise State.

He averaged 5.6 yards per carry last season and ranked fourth in the conference with 108.4 all-purpose yards per game.

Rivers is the son of former bulldog running back Ron Rivers, who ranks second all-time in rushing yards in Fresno State history.

Wisconsin Running Back Jonathan Taylor won the award in 2018 as a sophomore and returns to the 2019 list.

The Doak Walker Award winner will be announced on December 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
