Waymo announced it will launch its robotaxi service in Las Vegas, San Diego and Detroit next year, marking its biggest geographic expansion.
The company will begin deploying new Zeekr-built vehicles this week in addition to its current Jaguar I-PACE fleet.
Driving the news: Zeekr vehicles, developed with Chinese automaker Geely, are designed specifically for robotaxi operations and will roll out gradually.
- Waymo currently operates in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Austin, with over 10 million completed trips.
What we’re watching: The Las Vegas launch is planned for next summer.
- In San Diego, Waymo is collaborating with local officials and first responders to obtain deployment permits.
- Detroit’s robotaxi rollout follows successful winter-weather testing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, proving the system’s year-round capability. Detroit is also home to Waymo’s long-standing engineering operations.
