Tesla recalls around 700,000 vehicles for tire warning light issue

An issue with the warning light for the tire pressure monitoring system has necessitated a recall.

Tesla is recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles due to an issue with the warning light on the tire pressure monitoring system, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The big picture: The recall includes specific model years: 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles.

  • The problem with the vehicles lies in the tire pressure monitoring system warning light, which may not remain illuminated between drive cycles, potentially failing to alert the driver of low tire pressure, thus increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Tesla will address the issue by offering a free software update to rectify the problem.

What we’re watching: Owners are expected to receive notification letters by February 15, 2025, and can reach out to Tesla customer service for further information at 1-877-798-3752 or contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit their website at www.nhtsa.gov

Go deeper: This recall adds to Tesla’s ongoing recall activity, including previous recalls related to the Cybertruck and other vehicle issues throughout the year, such as a hood problem and warning light size concerns.

  • The Cybertruck faced its seventh recall in the year, with one of the previous recalls involving approximately 2,400 vehicles.
  • Tesla’s history of recalls includes more than 1.8 million vehicles recalled in July due to a hood issue and nearly 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S. recalled in February because of small warning lights on the instrument panel.
