A recent Pew Research Center report revealed that nearly half of American teenagers report being online constantly, despite concerns about the impact of social media and smartphones on their mental health.
The big picture: YouTube remains the most popular platform among teens, with 90% watching videos on the site, and three-quarters visiting it daily. However, usage of TikTok and Snapchat saw slight declines in usage.
- The report indicated a significant drop in X platform usage among teens, with only 17% reporting using it compared to 23% in the previous year.
- The survey also highlighted that Meta’s messaging service WhatsApp experienced an increase in teenage users, rising from 17% to 23%.
Go deeper: A quarter of Black and Hispanic teens reported visiting TikTok almost constantly, compared to only 8% of White teenagers.
- Gender differences were observed in platform usage, with girls more likely to use TikTok constantly, while boys gravitated towards YouTube. However, there was no significant gender gap in Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook usage.
