Samsung recalls 1.1 million electric ranges

The ranges were unintentionally activating, leading to fires.

Samsung has recalled over 1.1 million electric ranges due to a potential fire hazard caused by the unintentional activation of products with front-mounted knobs, resulting in fires and fatalities of pets.

The recall impacts certain slide-in electric range models with front-mounted knobs sold between 2013 and 2024 in the U.S.

The big picture: The remedy for the recall is free knob locks or covers for the specific models affected by the issue, which pose a fire hazard when flammable objects are left on the range.

  • There have been over 300 reports of unintentional activation by humans or pets since 2013, with about 250 fires involving the recalled ranges and resulting in extensive property damage, injuries, and pet deaths.
  • The ranges were sold nationwide at various retailers and online outlets between May 2013 and August 2024, with prices ranging from $1,250 to $3,050 based on the model.
  • Consumers with the recalled Samsung ranges are urged to contact the company to receive a free set of knob locks or covers for installation, regardless of warranty status.
