JetBlue Airways is planning to open its first airport lounges at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Boston Logan International Airport next year to compete with larger airlines for premium travelers.
The lounge at JFK will be 8,000 square feet, while the one at Boston Logan will be 11,000 square feet.
The big picture: The lounges will be primarily for top-level members of JetBlue’s TrueBlue frequent-flyer program and those who hold a new, premium JetBlue-branded credit card. Day passes may also be available if space permits.
- Delta and United have reported that revenue from premium passengers is growing faster than other segments, indicating the potential benefits of targeting this market.
- JetBlue will consider opening lounges at other airports based on the results from JFK and Boston.
