Former U.S. Rep. George Santos (R–New York) has filed a lawsuit against late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, alleging that Kimmel deceived him into making videos on the Cameo app that were used to ridicule Santos on the show.
The lawsuit names Kimmel, ABC, and Walt Disney Co. as defendants.
Driving the news: Santos was booted out of the House of Representatives after being charged with fraud and stealing from donors.
- He is suing for copyright infringement, fraudulent inducement, breach of contract and unjust enrichment.
- Santos claims that Kimmel misrepresented himself in order to get Santos to create personalized videos that capitalized on and ridiculed his personality.
- Kimmel allegedly submitted at least 14 requests using phony names and narratives without Santos’ knowledge, which were then played on a segment called “Will Santos Say It?” on the show.
- Santos is seeking $750,000 in statutory damages for the five videos that were played on the show and on social media platforms, along with other damages to be determined at trial.
