Disney finds new board chair from Morgan Stanley

James Gorman will leave his position with the finance giant by the end of the year.

The Walt Disney Co. has named Morgan Stanley Executive Chairman James Gorman as its next board chairman, starting in early 2025.

The big picture: Gorman will succeed Mark Parker, who has been on Disney’s board for nine years.

  • Gorman currently chairs Disney’s succession planning committee and serves as executive chairman at Morgan Stanley, but will be stepping down from that role by the end of the year.

What we’re watching: Disney also plans to name its new CEO in early 2026.

What they’re saying: “The Disney Board has benefited tremendously from James Gorman’s expertise and guidance, and we are lucky to have him as our next Chairman – particularly as the Board continues to move forward with the succession process,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger in a statement.
